A man from Montgomery has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted for a robbery in Hope Hull in which he reportedly discharged a firearm.Â
According to an announcement from the U.S. District Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, Jamarcus Dewayne Hatcher, 21, made a plea agreement following the incident in April 2023.Â
The announcement said that on April 6, 2023 Hatcher entered a gas station and pointed a gun at the cashier before demanding money. When he was given approximately $90 of cash, Hatcher demanded to know where the cameras were.Â
He then entered into the side office area where he believed there was a security DVR and shot his firearm into it. Afterwards he fled the building on foot.Â
"On January 22, 2024, Hatcher pleaded guilty to Hobbs Act robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence," the announcement said "When pronouncing Hatcher’s sentence during the May 1, 2024, sentencing hearing, the judge also considered five separate armed robberies or attempted armed robberies of gas station convenience stores and walk-up restaurants. These incidents occurred in March or April of 2023 and involved Hatcher."
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Montgomery Police Department, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case, with assistance from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John J. Geer.Â
