Marche Johnson, who formerly represented District 3 on the Montgomery City Council, has sued the city after her seat was vacated due to issues about her residency.Â
According to WSFA documents apparently showed that Johnson purchased a home that was not in District 3 with a Veterans Affairs loan. Alabama law requires that a councilor live in their district.Â
As a result, the council declared her seat vacate and set a special election to replace the former councilor.Â
Attorneys for Johnson are arguing that she was not given a chance to make her case for the council with hearings or witnesses. They are reportedly seeking compensatory damages but not to restore Johnson to the seat.Â
