The Marengo County Historical Society has announced a grant awarded by the ALA-TOM RC&D Council to develop an master plan for the "adaptive re-use" of the water tower in Demopolis.
The structure is a 1939 “tin tub” style water tower located on the banks of the Tombigbee River.
"This historic tower, which has long been a defining structure, will be transformed into an outdoor, multi-use facility designed to serve the community and visitors." said the announcement. "The (master plan) lays the groundwork for an innovative space that accommodates community gatherings and acts as a welcoming beacon for locals and visitors."
The master plan will determine the project's design, meeting ADA Standards for accessibility, and the proposed scope of work as well as the pre-schematic design estimates of probable construction costs.
“Thanks to the support of ALA-TOM RC&D Council, we are one step closer to realizing a vision that combines functionality, history, and creativity in one iconic location,” said Kirk Brooker, Operations Director of the Marengo County Historical Society.
