Marengo County Historical Society to host annual Rooster Auction & Membership Party Aug. 15

The Marengo County Historical Society will host its annual Rooster Auction & Membership Party on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Coplin Building in downtown Demopolis.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the fundraiser, which benefits the preservation and maintenance of Bluff Hall and Lyon Hall, two of Marengo County's most significant historic landmarks.

The event's live auction will feature a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences. Among the headlining packages is a Murder Mystery Progressive Dinner for 12 guests, where participants will travel through three historic homes while enjoying appetizers, dinner and dessert. Along the way, guests will become part of an interactive murder mystery complete with hidden clues, unexpected twists, jazz music, vintage cocktails and plenty of laughs.

Outdoor enthusiasts can bid on a thermal hog and predator night hunt for two at Young Plantation. The package includes a one-night stay at Suzanne and Patrick's hunting camp, a case of beer provided by Papas Food and a $50 gift card to Hello Sunshine Eats for dinner.

Another featured item is an exclusive cocktail party at The Venue at Lakewood in Livingston, where special guest Kenny Freeman will showcase artifacts from his personal collection and share stories from his adventures.

Additional live auction items include clogging lessons, a Derby Day brunch and other experiences that will be announced leading up to the event on the Historical Society's Facebook page.

The silent auction will include more than 50 donated items, including Booze Brothers gift baskets, original artwork, restaurant gift cards, homemade breads and desserts, oil changes, deer processing services and many other items. A complete list of silent auction offerings will also be shared on social media before the event.

"This annual Rooster Auction and Membership Party is one of the Marengo County Historical Society's largest fundraisers," said MCHS President Brandy Daniels. "Proceeds are used for the maintenance and repairs of Bluff Hall and Lyon Hall, helping us preserve these historic treasures for future generations."

Adding to the evening's entertainment will be live music from Thomasville singer-songwriter Trey Rowell, whose heartfelt vocals and original songs will provide the soundtrack for the event.

Founded in 1961, the Marengo County Historical Society owns and operates Bluff Hall, built around 1832, and Lyon Hall, built around 1850. Through the preservation and interpretation of the two historic house museums, the organization works to protect and share the history, architecture and cultural heritage of Marengo County.

Annual memberships are $30 for individuals and $50 for couples and include admission to the event. Memberships may be purchased in advance or at the door at the Coplin Building, 203 E. Washington St., in Demopolis.
