A Marengo County man has been sentenced to 13 years for robbing a Chevron gas station in Dixon Mills, said an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson on Tuesday.
Citing court documents the announcement said that Yancy Xavier Dumas robbed the store on Jan. 9, 2024. He reportedly entered the store on Highway 43 wearing a mask and pointed a firearm at the cashier, demanding money.
During the robbery he is said to have told the cashier “give me that bag,” and “I’m going to bust you up.” Once he fired the gun to get the cashier to turn over the money more quickly.
Approximately $5,000 in cash was stolen. Dumas then fled the scene in his girlfriend's car.
Dumas was later arrested by authorities at another gas station belonging to the same store owner, the announcement said. Around $3,700 of the money was found a shed at Dumas’ mother’s house and the gun was found at Dumas’ girlfriend’s trailer.
