The Demopolis High School Tigers delivered a decisive homecoming performance Oct. 23, defeating the Montevallo High School Bulldogs 41-6.
The win is a welcome respite to several tough weeks, including a crushing defeat at the hands of the Selma High School Saints Tigers on Oct. 16. With Friday’s win, the Tigers will go into their final game of the season with a 3-6 record.
The Tigers ended the first quarter ahead by two touchdowns (minus a missed PAT), and they added a third touchdown in the second quarter. Montevallo answered with a single field goal to go into halftime.
The score was 41-3 by the end of the third quarter, and Montevallo added another field goal in the fourth quarter. Toward the end of the game, Demopolis put in a batch of young players, including freshman Davis Allgood at quarterback. In his first start, eighth grader Albert Schornhorst recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown on a quarterback keeper by Whit Goodwin.
According to the Blue Heat Network crew, Demopolis generated 290 yards in offence compared to Montevallo’s 129 yards. They named Will Compton and Foster Freeman players of the game.
Jordan Cherry, Reshawn Robinson, Jayden Harris, Levi Smelley, Aidan Burns, Braylen Wallace, Jamaun Watts, Kobe Monroe, Jayden Harris, Fletcher Bailey and Colt Goodwin also played an especially good game.
Demopolis faces Marbury at home Oct. 29 on Senior Night.
