Marion Rodeo honored the first cowboys to compete 29 years ago

The 29th annual Marion Rodeo was a huge success this year, held on Friday and Saturday, and it featured the first cowboys to ever compete in the Marion Rodeo 29 years ago. 

Promoter Jennifer Hoggle thanked all the people who came to see the cowboys and cowgirls and all the rodeo action. 

“It was great! Pleasant weather this year and now a little rain Monday makes for the perfect Marion rodeo weekend!” Hoggle said. 

The Marion Rodeo opened with the presentation of the Christian flag and an invocation. Then two cowgirls, each displaying the Star Spangled Banner, rode the arena for the National Anthem. 

One of the most popular events is the mutton busting, where children ride sheep, which starts off the rodeo. The huge crowd loved the cowgirl breakaway roping and barrel racing and the cowboy roping events, along with the bronc riding and bullriding.  

In between events, there were activities to entertain the crowd like calf scramble for kids, and a gold rush where they put money and prizes in piles of hay for the kids to go through and get what they can find. 

Rodeo Clown and funny man TJ Williams also entertained the crowd with his beautiful and well-trained horses. 

Marion Rodeo is a professional event co-sanctioned by the Professional Cowboys Association (PCA) and the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA). The Marion rodeo has been produced by 3R Rodeo Co. out of Jemison for 29 years.  

Proceeds from Marion Rodeo go to the Perry County Fire Association Crisis Fund.
