The 29th annual Marion Rodeo is next weekend at the Ralph Eagle Memorial Arena in Marion. 

Promoter Jennifer Hoggle said all the popular events are back again this year for the events on June 21 and 22 with gates opening at 6 p.m., mutton busting starting at 6:30 p.m. the rodeo starting at 7 p.m. both nights. 

There is going to be mutton busting for the kids, which is the sheep riding everybody looks forward to,” she said. There is even going to be “our own version of a Mardi Gras where the kids can throw beads to the crowd.”  

Hoggle said there will also be a calf scramble for kids, and a gold rush where “we throw money and all kind of good things on tarps with hay for the kids to go through and get what they can find.” And that is just a few of the fun kid activities at the Marion Rodeo. 

There will also be all of the traditional rodeo events, including cowgirl breakaway roping and barrel racing.There will be the always popular bull riding and all of the roping events. And many more events throughout the night. 

Marion Rodeo is a professional event co-sanctioned by the Professional Cowboys Association (PCA) and the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA). Contestants will come from Florida to New York and even Oklahoma. 

Back this year to announce is world-renowned Jay Bird, and funnyman TJ Williams will entertain the crowd. The Marion rodeo has been produced by 3R Rodeo Co. out of Jemison for all 29 years.
