Tuesday marked the 65th anniversary of the first mass voting rights meeting held at the Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma.
The meeting was first held on May 14, 1963 at the building where a reenactment of the historic event was held. The meeting played an integral role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
Two guest speakers were present, including Dr. Bernard Lafayette, who was an organizer and leader during the Civil Rights Movement, as well as attorney Bruce Boynton, a pioneer of the movement at that time.
The Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church is located at 1431 Broad Street in Selma.
