McCarty’s Ferry Public Boat Ramp ribbon cutting ceremony set for June 10

On Tuesday, June 10, state and local representatives will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate renovations to the McCarty’s Ferry Public Boat Ramp on the Tombigbee River in Choctaw County in south Alabama. The event will take place at 2 p.m. The media and public are encouraged to attend.

The ribbon cutting event will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The boat ramp is located at the end of McCarty’s Ferry Road, which intersects with Ararat Road south of Butler, Alabama, in Choctaw County.

Speakers will be Commissioner Chris Blankenship, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR); Director Chuck Sykes, ADCNR Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division and Probate Judge Jason Sturdivant, Choctaw County.

The facility was temporarily closed in September 2024 for a major renovation. During the closure an additional launching slab was installed. Due to chronic siltation issues at the facility's existing launching slab, the new launching slab was constructed directly into the river channel. The existing launching slab was also extended and will be available for use during periods of high water. Two concrete parking lots were also constructed and the 1.5 mile entrance road to the facility is being repaved. The new facility is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible.

This boating access improvement project was completed through a partnership between ADCNR and Choctaw County. Funding for the project was primarily provided through the Wildlife Restoration Program under the federal Pittman-Robertson Act. Additional funding was provided by Choctaw County and Innovate Alabama, a statewide public-private partnership focused on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation with a mission to help businesses grow roots in Alabama.
