Meta to open $800 million data center in Montgomery

Technology company Meta is planning to set up shop in Montgomery with a $800 million data center expected to be completed by late 2026. 

The center will be a 715,000-square-foot, AI-optimized building to be built in a location off of Interstate 65 across from the Hyundai automotive assembly plant.

Meta operates Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp. 

“Each day, millions of people around the world use Meta’s products, and the next-generation Alabama data center in Montgomery will soon help keep the company’s popular platforms running smoothly,” said Governor Ivey in an announcement. 

“Meta is putting down roots in another great location in Sweet Home Alabama, and we’re committed to helping the company grow and prosper here.”

Once completed the center is expected to create 100 operational jobs and will reportedly add to the state's economy. It is the second of its kind by Meta, the first being established in Huntsville.
