Zickeyous Byrd. 

Former Selma City Schools Superintendent Zickeyous Byrd has been selected as the new superintendent for Montgomery Public Schools, filling in a vacancy left by Melvin Brown, who resigned last year. 

An announcement from the Montgomery County Board of Education (MCBOE) stated that the search for a new superintendent in January and that they contracted with the firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to find candidates. 

The search was eventually narrowed down to Byrd and Dr. Harold Wright, Deputy Superintendent of Achievement and Leadership at Crowley Independent School District in Fort Worth, Texas.

Both reportedly held town halls where they received feedback from the public. 

The announcement highlighted Byrd's past with Selma, saying that he helped make the district more financially sound through "strategic" budgeting, securing grants, and "maximizing resources."

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Zickeyous Byrd as our new Superintendent," Arica Smith President of the MCBOE. "His extensive experience, unwavering dedication to students, and leadership capabilities make him the ideal candidate to lead Montgomery Public Schools into the future. We are confident that under his leadership, MPS will continue to thrive and meet the evolving needs of our students and community."
