The County Commission voted to reallocate $1.75 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds previously promised to the City of Montgomery’s Office of Violence Prevention for Hospital-Based Violence Interruption and Violent Crime Prevention Program despite pleas from several citizens.

The Montgomery County Commission (MCC) has partnered with consulting firm TPMA to create a countywide strategic plan for "decision-making and investment" over a five year period.

A press release from MCC stated that the planning will be a nine-month endeavor involving an environmental scan, working with County officials and departments, and gathering  input from residents and community stakeholders.

“I am proud to help lead our effort to develop a comprehensive Strategic Plan for the future of our county. Montgomery County must be prepared—not just for today, but for the next generation. My priority is growth. I want to see Montgomery County flourish, not fall behind.” said Vice Chair, Commissioner Carmen Moore-Zeigler.

“This Strategic Plan will help us identify what we need to do differently, what we can improve, and how we can better serve our residents. Our responsibility as commissioners is to ensure that when we leave office, Montgomery County is stronger, more vibrant, and better positioned for success than when we began.”

Demographics, economy, workforce, infrastructure, service-delivery, and regional trends will be examined.

“Montgomery County is approaching this work with a strong commitment to both analysis and engagement,” said Brett Wiler, Vice President of Economic Development and Strategic Planning at TPMA. “Our role is to bring those pieces together and help the County develop a strategy that is ambitious, practical, and built for implementation.”

The plan is expected to be completed by May 31, 2027. A survey to gather input from citizens will be announced in the future, the press release said.

“We want the strategy to be grounded in both the data and the experience of the people who know Montgomery County best,” said Zachary Rice, Principal Consultant and Project Lead at TPMA. “By bringing those perspectives together before we begin setting priorities, we can build a plan that reflects real conditions and gives the County a clear path from strategy to action.”
