The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a scam that impersonates police officers demanding money for nonexistent warrants, missed jury duty or fines.

"These scams often originate in foreign countries but with current technology, they can spoof official law enforcement phone numbers and use real names of deputies and officials," said a post on social media by the department.

Residents are reminded that the sheriff's office will never make calls requesting payment and are advised to hang up and call their local law enforcement.
