The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is warning residents of a phone scam that impersonates police officers collecting money for arrest warrants, court fine or for failure to report for jury duty.

"The origin of these scams is often from foreign countries," said an announcement by MCSO. "Current technology allows them to spoof official law enforcement phone numbers, often obtaining names of agency personnel from websites and social media pages."

The announcement assures that MCSO will not make phone calls for such things. Anyone who receives phone calls or emails is advised to disregard them and notify authorities.

No one should provide any personal information to these calls or emails, MCSO says.
