The Montgomery Fire/Rescue department and Engine 16 has raised $78,689.65 for Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of its annual Fill the Boot campaign.Â
"We thank the community for the overwhelming support and remarkable generosity you have shown for this cause," said a post on the City of Montgomery's Facebook page.Â
Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease that degrades skeletal muscles overtime, often leaving patients handicapped.Â
The department has raised more than $1.8 million for the association, which has a national network of care centers to treat those with the condition.Â
