Montgomery firefighters responded to a gas leak that was reported in the 1300 block of Hull Street on Thursday.Â
According to an announcement from Montgomery Fire & Rescue a call was made about a possible gas leak in the area where a fiber optics boring company was working.Â
When firefighters arrived it was found that a "large" natural gas main had been breached from the work.Â
"Firefighters immediately established a safety perimeter and evacuated homes within approximately a one block radius as a precaution," said the announcement. "In total, 17 residents were safely evacuated while crews worked to secure the scene alongside Spire Gas personnel."
Spire Gas crews and firefighters worked to close the breach and conducted atmospheric monitoring until it was found that the area was safe. Residents were able to return home afterwards.Â
"Thank you to our firefighters and our partners at Spire Gas for their quick response and coordinated efforts to keep our community safe," the announcement adds.
