A Montgomery man is facing life in prison after being convicted for the sexual assault of a child between eight and 10, said a statement from District Attorney Azzie Oliver.
According to the statement Barry Purdie was recently found guilty of first degree sodomy and sexual assault of a child less than 12. He will be sentenced on Aug. 3.
Oliver's statement noted what she said was the bravery and resilience of the child who testified. She had reportedly been subject to sexual abuse over a two-year period.
She also recognized Deputy District Attorneys Tamar Dennis and Victoria Maldonado, Victim Service Officer Cindy McQueen, Legal Support Assistant Kawandra Stallworth, and Montgomery Police Det. JaDarius Richardson.
“Barry Purdie robbed a precious child of her innocence as well as her sense of trust and security," said Oliver. "The harm he inflicted extends far beyond the physical, leaving her to cope with deep emotional trauma that may never fully fade. We will be asking for the maximum sentence allowed to ensure that this vile individual is never able to harm another child again.”
