A Montgomery man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting and wounding of a corrections officer on March 4, 2023.
An announcement from Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey said that the man who was sentenced, Charles Green Hall Jr., knew the officer as he served time in the Alabama Department of Corrections.
They were both inside of a business in Montgomery when Hall reportedly started an argument with the officer and threatened violence against him. He is said to have followed the officer outside where an altercation began and Hall shot him at close range.
The officer survived and Hall was arrested before eventually pleading guilty to first-degree assault. He was sentenced by specially assigned visiting Judge Marvin Wiggins.
“Law enforcement officers do one of the most dangerous jobs in the world so the rest of us can feel safe," said Bailey. "This applies especially to jail and prison guards who encounter our most violent offenders daily."
"This victim did nothing wrong, but this dangerous criminal attacked him because of his work as a prison guard. Violence of any kind has no place in our community, and I am proud that my office worked to bring justice to this victim. I want to thank Judge Wiggins for this sentence and for helping me send the message that if you commit violent crime in Montgomery County then you are going to prison for a long time.”
