A Montgomery man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a man in 2015 who he thought was involved in his brother's death.
The defendant, Eric Abram, Jr., was sentenced by Judge J.R. Gaines after pleading guilty to the murder of Deandre Mungro.
According to an announcement from District Attorney Daryl Bailey, no charges were filed during the initial investigation. However, further investigation lead to an indictment in 2020.
In May of 2015 Mungro was walking home from a store when Abram reportedly pulled up in a vehicle and shot him in the head. Investigators later learned of his motive but Mungro's alleged involvement was never proven.
“Violent acts of retaliation have no business in our community," Bailey said. "This criminal chose to take the law into his own hands and now he is paying the price by spending the rest of his life in prison. My office will always stand with the victim and seek the maximum possible sentence against the perpetrators."
"Judge Gaines has sent a message to the community that he takes these cases very seriously. I want to thank Judge Gaines for this sentence and ensure the community that my office will continue our fight to clean up the streets of Montgomery.”
