A Montgomery man was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole after being convicted of attempted murder during an incident in 2022 and for possession of a firearm as a felon.
According to Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver, Maricus Taylor was found guilty for attempting to shoot a cashier at the Petro Mart convenience store on Fairview Avenue that year.
“The court’s decision ensures that Maricas Taylor will no longer have the opportunity to harm innocent people," said Oliver in a statement. "I want to commend the extraordinary work of our prosecutors, investigators, and law enforcement partners who built a thorough and compelling case.
"I also recognize the courage of the victims and witnesses who came forward despite the trauma they endured. Their strength made this outcome possible.”
The shooting stemmed from an argument that he had with the victim. During the investigation it was found that he was a felon who was prohibited from owning guns and ammunition.
“Today’s life sentence delivers accountability and affirms our commitment to public safety,” Oliver continued. “Repeat violent offenders must face serious consequences, and our office will continue to pursue justice relentlessly to protect this community.”
