Montgomery named in top five as a Great American Defense Community

Montgomery was named one of the top five Great American Defense Communities.

The city that is home to Maxwell Air Force base says it works to create a welcoming and supportive space for service members and their families. "

As the home to our military, these communities recognize the unique challenges and hard work needed to ensure military families are made to feel valued," the city said in a social media post.

In Montgomery, leaders cited many programs that have helped support military families, including $15 million MAFB Commercial Vehicle Inspection Gate to maximize base security, enhanced quality of life for military families with greenway trail network and Montgomery Whitewater, $33.2 million to support the mission of Maxwell-Gunter AFB & the Alabama Air National Guard, program to allow access to magnet schools for on-base families and cutting red tape to allow military spouses with an out-of-state license to work in Alabama.
