A former Montgomery police officer was arrested and charged with sex abuse in the first degree, said a recent update from the department.

The accused man has been identified as Markelle Cox, 27. The Montgomery Police Department relieved him of duty and took him into custody on Friday, Oct. 21.

The update from MPD said that Cox was found to have allegedly committed the act the day before on Oct. 20. He was placed in the Montgomery Detention Facility under a $15,000 bond.

Cox joined the department in 2022 and was assigned to the Patrol Division.
