The Montgomery Sheriff's Office has launched the Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education (IGNITE) program to help inmates transition back into society. 

In an announcement by the department, the program is said to be the first of its kind. 

"The goal of IGNITE is to empower people to take control of their future by providing job and trade skill training, classes on completing job applications and interviews, job readiness, building a resume, and connecting them with prospective employers," said a post on the department's Facebook page.

"Drug education, counseling and building communication skills courses are also available, in addition to a variety of financial, food industry, trade and commercial trade courses."

Sheriff Derrick Cunningham launched the program at the Montgomery County Detention Center on April 2.
