Darren Brooks Jr escaped Perry County Jail

The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is urging citizens to be on high alert following the escape of Darren Brooks Jr. from the Perry County Jail on Sunday at 12:42 p.m.

The office said in a statement that Brooks is considered armed and dangerous and recommends not approaching him. Instead, call 911 and immediately contact the Perry County Sheriff’s Office at (334) 683-6534.

Brooks, whose nickname is “Dog Face,” has been indicted on capital murder charges in Perry County in connection with the January 2023 killing of Christopher Lewis during a robbery incident in Marion.

“Public safety is our top priority. We are working closely with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and state and federal partners to locate and apprehend Mr. Brooks,” said District Attorney Robert H. Turner Jr. “We ask everyone to stay vigilant, avoid confrontation, and report any information immediately.”

Law enforcement asks those with doorbell cameras or business surveillance near jail access routes or in or around Marion to review footage from 12 a.m. – 2 a.m. today and share relevant clips with law enforcement.

Brooks was indicted in Perry County on capital murder charges for the killing of Christopher Lewis, who died after being shot in a robbery on Jan. 6, 2023.
