National Park Service will host a free panel discussion at the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March on Feb. 5.
Dr. Bryan Reeves, MSO executive director, will moderate a panel discussion with Maestro Jamie Reeves, MSO music director and conductor; and Dr. Nkeiru Okoye, composer and librettist.
There will be focus on a work commissioned by the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, titled "A Time for Jubilee."
Topics will include:
The project and its inclusion in MSO's Alabama Composer's project
The relationship between sites along the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail that inspired the work
The movements of the piece and the compositional and artistic process behind its creation
The event will be hosted at 2 p.m. at the Montgomery Interpretive Center on 1521 Harris Way in Montgomery.
“A Time for Jubilee” will premier on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Troy University's Davis Theatre.
