BLACKFEET RESERVATION – The Blackfeet Fish & Wildlife has confirmed a case of avian flu (H5N1) in the wild bird population on the Blackfeet Reservation. The virus was found in a migrating Canada goose in the Mission Lake area.

Residents are urged to assist in monitoring wildlife health.

The public is advised to report any sick, dead or unusually behaving birds or animals, such as those stumbling or unable to fly. Blackfeet Fish & Wildlife emphasizes not touching sick or dead wildlife and keeping children and pets away.

Hunters and those handling birds are encouraged to practice proper hygiene and safely dispose of carcasses.

The department will provide updates as more information becomes available. Community cooperation is crucial in protecting the health of local wildlife and residents.
