An "elusive" great white shark was filmed off the coast of Rhode Island for the first time.

This is the first time that the "juvenile" white shark has been seen swimming in the waters near Brock Island, just south of mainland Rhode Island.

The video filmed on September 19, 2025, was captured by the Atlantic Shark Institute's Baited Remote Underwater Video System (BRUVS).

BRUVs are custom-built systems that involve waterproof cameras set inside protective housing and are installed on the sea floor.

According to the Atlantic Shark Institute, great white sharks can be "elusive" with a very small population, meaning they aren't easy to find in their natural environment.
