Locals are stunned after a famous landmark building put up its Christmas lights before Halloween.

The Dome, a bar and restaurant in Edinburgh in Scotland, turned on the display on Oct. 20.

Columns at the front of the building have been decorated with hundreds of white lights, with red wreaths hung in the building’s windows.

But the move has sparked debate on social media, with one resident branding the display as “far too early” adding, “leave until Dec. 1.”

Another local said: “Far too early; at least wait until after Halloween.

“If I had my way, I’d ban anything Christmas until Advent.”

However, some comments praised the display, with one local calling the lights “absolutely perfect.”

She added: “It’s never too early for some sparkle in our lives.”

The Dome, built in 1847, was designed by architect David Rhine, and served as the headquarters for the Commercial Bank of Scotland until 1959, when the company changed to the Royal Bank of Scotland and put the landmark up for sale.

By 1996, the building had been purchased by Caledonian Heritable Ltd - and the Dome opened its doors as a bar, restaurant, and events venue.

The George Street locale has become known around the city for its extensive Christmas light displays - which use around 500,000 lights each year, and decorate the building from October until early spring.
