Man found in Nevada and charged with attempted homicide connected to Belgrade shooting

BELGRADE Mont. - A man was arrested and charged with attempted homicide in connection to a June 21 shooting in the River Rock area of Belgrade after he was found in Las Vegas, according to court documents and the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office (GCSO). 

GCSO said immediately following the shooting that it appeared the suspect, identified in court documents as Vincent Herrera, had left Gallatin County. 

According to court documents, multiple 911 calls were made after gunshots were heard in the Woodman Drive area on June 21. A man was seen walking along Woodman Drive with a gun in his waistband and appeared to be bleeding from several apparent gunshot wounds. 

A man contacted police who identified himself as the gunshot victim's brother-in-law, and said his brother-in-law was shot by a man dating his ex-wife, identified as Herrera. 

The man shot was transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital for treatment. Court documents said he told police that his ex-wife had come to his house for a custody exchange of their child and brought Herrera with her, before an argument ensued that led to shots fired. Hererra allegedly shot the man twice before the man fired back at him four times. 

Cell phone location information for Herrera showed movement south toward Idaho, according to court documents. On June 26, GCSO shared in a social media update that Herrera had been found in Las Vegas. 

Herrera was charged with felony attempted homicide and made his first appearance in court on Monday.
