Pottsville, Pa. — A debate between Congressman Dan Meuser and Democratic challenger Rachel Wallace was announced yesterday. Seats filled within hours.
The Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the PA-09 contenders debate at Penn State Schuylkill on Oct. 20. Public registration closed after the 250-seat venue filled within hours of the debate's announcement, Wallace's campaign said in a release.
“I have been very clear that I will debate Dan any time, anywhere, because he has a lot to answer for,” Wallace said. She said she hopes moderators will ask about affordability and rising health care costs and looks forward to “holding Dan accountable.”
Meuser welcomed the matchup in comments to the Coal Region Canary, saying he wants “to make the case for continuing our work to deliver results and advance common-sense solutions for northeastern and central Pennsylvania,” according to the release.
“I look forward to sharing my vision for lowering costs, fighting fraud and corruption, (and) bringing people together to solve local problems as part of this debate,” Wallace said.
Wallace has called for debates since August. Meuser had told the Rocket-Courier he needed a debate that fit his schedule and was “in [his] interest,” the release said.
