GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Senator Steve Daines recently addressed a significant challenge facing Montana: the decline of the timber industry. The state is experiencing numerous mill closures, leading to job losses.
"When he was growing up there was over 30 active sawmills," said Senator Daines."We're quote down to less than a half a dozen."
"Montana sawmills are disappearing and lawsuits are tying up logging projects leaving 30 million broad feet of timber stuck in court." Daines added, "the problem is the lawyers are winning the loggers are losing."
"We have too many lawsuits that tie up timber projects. We have 300 million board feet of timber tied up in litigation as we speak here this morning," said Daines.
Senator Daines emphasized his efforts in Washington to push for legislation that would expedite forest projects. He expressed his goal to halt what he referred to as "unnecessary legislation."
The situation is being closely monitored as the senator continues his fight for the timber industry in Montana.
