Scuffles, insults as Israelis celebrate Jerusalem Day under shadow of Gaza war

Israeli right-wing activists carry national flags in Jerusalem's Old City during a flag march for Jerusalem Day on May 26, 2025, commemorating the Israeli army's 1967 capture of the city's eastern sector during the Arab-Israeli war. Every year, thousands of Israeli nationalists, many of them religious Jews, march through Jerusalem and its annexed Old City, including in predominantly Palestinian neighbourhoods, waving Israeli flags, dancing and sometimes shouting inflammatory slogans.
