Three dead, including shooter, in Minneapolis mass shooting

(The Center Square) – Three people are dead and six others are injured after a mass shooting in downtown Minneapolis on late Wednesday afternoon.

Three police officers sustained injuries iand are expected to make full recoveries.

“Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon,” Gov. Tim Walz said Wednesday. “We’re relieved to hear from MPD officials that the officers involved in today’s shooting are expected to make a full recovery. We’re keeping all of the victims in our prayers as more information about this tragic shooting unfolds.”

Among the dead is the shooter, Carlton Neal Johnson II.

According to court records, Johnson had a history of assault and making violent threats and was facing eviction from the apartment building where the shooting took place.

The investigation is ongoing.

“While we still have limited information, it is clear that this was a terrible and shocking attack with numerous victims,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the deceased, the law enforcement officers who were shot, and all the other victims who are currently receiving medical care.”

Moriarty added that her office is coordinating with the Minneapolis Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on the investigation.
