Several new activities will be included in the upcoming 10th annual Get Fit Selma! HealthFest on Oct. 7 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McRae-Gaines Learning Center.

In addition to the 5K Run and Community Fun Run/Walk, free health screenings, and a health education and vendor fair there will be a Kidz Color Run, School Carnival, and “Street Olympics.”

"Youth and teens are all invited to run or walk the 5K as individuals or as teams of 5 or more runners or walkers (which nets a $5 discount for each team member)," said a press release from organizers. "The Kidz Color Run adds “color” to the ½ mile event and also offers team discounts."

"Street Olympics, which will be managed by partner B.O.S.S. Youth League, consists of 50- and 100-yard dashes, basketball drills, football passing, and softball throw contests plus a relay race and tug-of-war. The children 5-7 will have their own age-appropriate challenges. Each activity will be organized in age-groups. If your child has a skill in which they excel, bring them to Get Fit Selma to show off and show out – all to the music of Dr. Feel Good!"

The Street Olympics event will end with a Street Ball Challenge for youths of ages 12 to 16 years old at noon and will be played on the basketball court next to the McRae Learning Center.

There will also be games, prizes, inflatables, snack foods and a Cake Walk for kids, as well as Bingo for adults and grilled lunch.

Registration is requested and can be done here

The McRae-Gaines Learning Center is located at 1101 Woodrow Avenue in Selma.
