New club for horsemen formed to help cleanup Grist Park

Back Country Horsemen of West Alabama has formed to keep trails at Grist Park in Dallas County cleared for horseback riding and ATV trails.

Riding horses is fun. Riding with a big group of family and friends is even more fun. Add to that helping to maintain an area for everyone to enjoy, and it becomes fun and rewarding.

That is the goal of the national riding club Back Country Horsemen of America. The BCHA is a family-oriented organization made up of people who love to ride and explore new trails. But they also assist with trail maintenance and improvement projects on public lands across the country, keeping trails clear for all user groups.

A West Alabama chapter recently formed. They call themselves The Back Country Horsemen of West Alabama, and they are claiming Paul M. Grist Park in Dallas County as their home. BCHWA Chairwoman Jaime Ruff said, “We’re going to oversee Paul Grist State Park and maintain and improve the trail system and hopefully grow the park to its fullest potential.”
