Calmar Drive in Montgomery is the site of a new, $2.5 million community center, said an announcement on Wednesday.

The future Calmar Community Center is a 5,000-square-foot facility that will house meeting rooms, classrooms for pre-K programming, workforce development, and "continuing education opportunities."

“Calmar Community Center will serve as a cornerstone of its community,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “Part of the Montgomery Forward initiative, the center will be a place where residents can come together, share meals, and strengthen community bonds.”

The facility will also have activities for senior citizens, high school students, and other age groups.

Funding comes from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Block Grant program.

It is expected that over the next eight to nine months four additional community centers will be completed or renovated. These are: Crump Community Center, Sheridan Heights Community Center, Chisolm Community Center, and TRC Community Center.

The Calmar Community Center is estimated to open by spring 2025.
