Johnnie Chambers Sankey, who now represents District 3 in Montgomery, was sworn in during a meeting of the Montgomery City Council on Tuesday.

She was sworn in by Montgomery County Probate Judge J.C. Love III. She was elected on October 13 in the special municipal runoff election, beating Gregory Crawford.

“I am looking forward to the work that we have ahead of us, and I mean when I say we, that means we collectively,” Sankey said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with the council to make our City of Dreams the very best it can be.”

She is a graduate of Alabama State University and has 30 of experience in business ownership, healthcare and real estate, said the statement. Her professional background includes operating childcare in addition to healthcare businesses and the real estate industry.

“I’m willing to work hard," she said. "I’m willing to learn, and I’m ready to serve the people of District 3 and the City of Montgomery."

The district seat was previously held by Marche Johnson.
