Robert Turner Jr. recently took over as District Attorney for the Fourth Judicial District, which includes much of the Black Belt.

Turner posted a plea with the community on his Facebook page on Thursday to come forward with details of crimes so he can prosecute them.

Here is what he said:

Recently our community has been rocked by an eruption of violence. Families are being destroyed, lives are being lost way too soon and jails are being filled at an alarming rate. The District Attorney's Office of the 4th Judicial District Circuit extends its sympathies to the families of the recently deceased and injured.

Our staff is working diligently to seek truth in these matters and administer justice without rushing to judgment for those accused. We are requesting the community to rally around these events and commit to end this disturbing trend of violence.

Life is too precious for it to be prematurely ended by misunderstandings, retaliations and reckless behaviors. I am calling on the community to have tough conversations with those who are chosing violence and call upon them to stop! I am calling on the community speak on what you see and to share information necessary to solve the unsolved crimes and help close the open cases.

Things can get better if we love harder.

Turner, a Perry County attorney, beat longtime District Attorney Michael Jackson in the 2022 elections to take over the seat. He started in January.
