69 new parking kiosks have been placed "strategically" throughout the entertainment district in high-traffic areas in downtown Montgomery.

The kiosks are updated from the traditional parking meters that accept coins but are electronic and have new features to make the parking process "more efficient," said an announcement on Tuesday.

The new meters can still accept coin but are now able to accept Visa or Mastercard. Users can enter their license plate number and select the amount of parking time before paying using cards.

"When parking, residents are advised that if there is a parking meter directly in front of their parking space, they will pay that meter directly," said the announcement. "If there is no parking meter directly in front of the parking space, then residents should proceed to the nearby kiosk to pay for parking."

The steps to use the kiosks are as follows:

  1. Press Green checkmark button
  2. Enter your license plate number, then press checkmark
  3. If utilizing a card payment, enter the length of stay using the “+” or “-“ keys
  4. Present payment in coins or card
  5. Take your receipt

The announcement said that residents can continue to use the ParkMobile app on a cellular device where they can text the key work on the side of the parking kiosk or scan the QR code to pay online.
