Rep. Barry Moore, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and political newcomer Jared Hudson are all within single digits in the Republican race for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat, according to a new poll commissioned by Marshall-aligned Super PAC Alabama Strong.
The poll conducted by the Tarrance Group from April 11-14 of 500 likely Republican voters shows Moore at 28%, Marshall at 27% and Hudson at 24% of the vote.
When combined, the other Republican candidates, Seth Burton, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., Rodney Walker and Morgan Murphy (whose name will still appear on the ballot despite him dropping out) received 14% of the poll’s vote.
Seven percent of voters were undecided, a small number compared to other polls that have shown about a third of voters had yet to make up their minds earlier in the campaign season.
The polling memo states that Moore and Marshall are “neck-to-neck” among the most conservative elements of the primary electorate, including very conservative voters, born-again/evangelical voters, and those who strongly approve of the job that President Trump is doing.
Two of the frontrunners, Marshall and Moore, also have identical soft name awareness at 93%, according to the poll.
The poll’s margin of error is + 4.9% in 95 out of 100 cases.
The latest fundraising numbers show Moore’s campaign committee raised roughly $815,000 in the first quarter of the year, Hudson’s raised $550,000, and Marshall’s campaign account raised $209,000.
Democrats Dakarai Larriett, Kyle Sweetser, Everett Wess and Mark S. Wheeler II are running for U.S. Senate in the Democratic primary.
The primary is May 19. The last day to register to vote is May 4.
