The new Scott and Colleen Sport Endowed Accounting Scholarship at Troy University will reportedly help rural students, including those in the Black Belt, complete their accounting degrees.
An announcement from Troy University said that several requirements will be needed to be eligible. Applicants will need to have passed Principals of Accounting I and have a 2.5 grade point average.
Preference will be given to students from Crenshaw County before being given to those from Barbour, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Dale or Pike counties. If there are applicants not from these counties preference will be given to a first-generation college student from any county, said the announcement.
The scholarship is named after Scott Sport, a 1986 graduate of the Sorrell College of Business at Troy.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Scott to establish his second scholarship endowment. We cannot thank him and his family enough for their continued investment in making college more affordable for TROY’s students,” said JR Eason, Director of Development at Troy University.
“The scholarship will be instrumental in recruiting accounting students, especially from this region of Alabama, and will be impactful for the Carr School of Accountancy for many years to come.”
