NFL flag football

The first season of Rolling Youth Foundation’s NFL flag football summer program is in the books.

On June 21, Cashton Turner, Cameron Turner, Dylan Hooks, Ayden Dennis, Jondarius Sallie, Aria Young, Royalty Hall, Quintavious Moorer and Roosevelt Jones met up one last time on the Southside High School football field. They were coached by Erice Williams, the founder of the Rolling Youth Foundation, and John Sallie and Demarious Pratt. The refs for the game were Darian Stitten and Willie Greene.

The older players helped the youngers players’ game move in sync and with safety. And what a game it was! The young players showed a lot of heart on the field, with many touchdowns showing up on the scoreboard.

The final score for the 90-minute game was 48-42, with the victory going to Coach Sallie.

The jerseys on the field were NFL-based: the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tennessee Titans, the Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Texans.

At the end of the game, the players gathered under the NFL flag tents by bleachers that held their sneakers, gift bags and proud family members. Program Coordinator Sheneka Stitten passed out certificates to each player. Then they enjoyed pizza, cookies, chips, cold juice and water to celebrate completing the summer program.
