The National Park Service (NPS) has appointed Robert Stewart as the new superintendent of Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site and Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site.
Stewart has been with the NPS for 18 years. He has been an interpreter and superintendent for parks Ohio, Maryland, Alabama and Mississippi.
He is originally from Maryland and his first permanent NPS position was at the Tuskegee and Selma sites.
Stewart holds a master’s degree in human services administration with a concentration in special education from the collaborative University of Baltimore and Coppin State University program, as well as a Bachelor of Science in history and secondary education from Coppin State University.
“It is an honor to return to the Selma and Tuskegee sites to serve the community,” he said. “Every day in the NPS is an opportunity to motivate, help and guide others. My focus will be on accurate interpretation, proactive maintenance of our sites and partnering with local, regional and national communities.”
