Officials break ground on Montgomery Inland Port

Officials broke ground on the $94 million Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF), also known as the Montgomery Inland Port on Thursday.

A press release from the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) stated that seven "major" companies have moved to the area since the facility was announced in 2022. 

They have contributed $3 billion, developed more than 2 million square feet of space, and created more than 1,400 new jobs, the press release said. 

“With the rapid growth of our industrial sector, Montgomery is emerging as a premier logistics hub for the Southeast—centered around the transformative Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility,” said Anna Buckalew, President & CEO of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.

“This investment is already fueling billions in economic development, strengthening our supply chains, and creating new opportunities for businesses to thrive. Strategic public-private partnerships like this are reshaping our region’s future, making Montgomery a critical gateway for global commerce."

"The leadership of the Alabama Port Authority has been invaluable in this effort, and we are proud of our partnership with this engine driving growth across the state.”

The Montgomery ICTF is located on a 272-acre site, accessing Interstate 65, Interstate 85, and Highway 31. It is expected to support transportation needs of manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and industries and has capacity of 60,000 TEUs per year, or 30,000 shipping containers.

The facility will operate five days a week and offer "express daily service from the Port of Mobile to Alabama’s industrial and automotive corridor," said the press release.
