Elwood Sims, a pastor who preached in many places including Dallas County, has died at the age of 92 and after 70 years in ministry.Â
According to The Alabama Baptist, Sims was ordained in 1952 before going on to minister in Gadsden, Birmingham, Bessemer and then was a pastor of three part-time churches in the Selma Baptist Association.Â
He ministered in Kentucky before returning to eventually returning to be a bivocational minister at Orrville Baptist Church. During that time he was a teacher and principal in the Dallas County school system.Â
He retired from Dallas County Schools in 1994.Â
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ruth Epley; daughter, Ruth Elizabeth; sons, George Elwood, William Lee, Robert Lamar and Michael Vaughn; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
