Pauline's Legacy in Motion honors Selma woman, supports scholarship and promotes gun violence prevention

A memorial walk in August will honor the life of a Selma resident while raising funds for a scholarship in her name.

Pauline's Legacy in Motion is a memorial walk set for Aug. 29 at Bloch Park that was established in memory of Pauline Ford-Padgett, who died in August 2025 after she was fatally shot by her partner in a domestic violence incident. 

Registration starts at 8 a.m. with the walk starting at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Pauline Ford-Padgett Memorial Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students attending Alabama State University. The scholarship reflects Ford-Padgett's belief in the power of education and her enduring connection to the university, where she was an alumna.

According to organizers, Pauline's Legacy in Motion is about ensuring that Ford-Padgett's influence continues long after her passing by helping students pursue higher education while inspiring communities to take action against violence.

The event also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the devastating effects of gun violence and domestic violence. Participants are encouraged to walk not only in memory of Ford-Padgett but also in honor of countless families whose lives have been forever changed by violence.

Organizers hope the walk will unite people from across the region in remembrance, healing and action, while creating lasting opportunities for deserving students.
