A new pedestrian entrance for the Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park was celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Dec. 11.

"The project reflects years of collaboration and shared vision focused on enhancing one of Montgomery’s most historic public spaces while strengthening access and connectivity for the surrounding community," said an announcement from the city.

The announcement stated that Oak Park was established in the 1800s as part of the first streetcar suburb in the midtown section of Montgomery. It was landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers.

"The Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park are guided by a mission to inspire, educate, and enrich the community through a botanical destination that elevates quality of life, fosters appreciation for nature, and reinforces Montgomery’s cultural identity," continued the statement.

The ribbon was cut by members of the Montgomery Botanical Gardens Board, Mayor Steven Reed, community leaders, and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce.
