The Perry County Commission has given its first Engineer of the Year award to DeAndrae Kimbrough, who has been with the Perry County Highway Department since 2006.

According to a post on social media Kimbrough was the assistant engineer before being promoted to county engineer. He hails from Marengo County and holds a BS from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in civil engineering.

"The Engineer of the Year Award is the second statewide recognition of Mr. Kimbrough in as many years by the Alabama Engineers Association of Alabama," said a statement on the commission's social media.

"In 2023, Kimbrough received the One Family Award based on the grants the county engineer secured for fiscal year 2023 through the ARPA Stormwater Grant Program. Kimbrough secured $148,717 worth of grant funds for infrastructure work around Perry County."
