A Perry County man was sentenced Tuesday to 75 years in prison for the 2021 murder of his wife, Alesia King-Woods.
Jimmy Woods received the sentence in Perry County Circuit Court from Judge Collins Pettaway following his convictions for murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the Aug. 14, 2021, killing. Woods also received 10 years for abusing his wife’s body, with the sentences running concurrently.
King-Woods was first reported missing, prompting an investigation that later revealed she had been killed.Â
Assistant District Attorneys John Wesley Kelly IV and R. Bryan Jones prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. Prosecutors said in a statement that the outcome underscores Alabama’s commitment to aggressively pursuing violent offenders, particularly in cases of domestic violence.
State officials noted that the killing highlights the ongoing dangers faced by victims of domestic abuse and urged community members to take signs of domestic violence seriously. Authorities encouraged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help through law enforcement agencies, victim advocacy groups or crisis hotlines.
